SB262
Removing the Mandate that Electors must be U.S Citizens
Date of Vote: May 26, 2023
Chamber of Origin: SenateThis bill eliminates the requirement that members of certain town advisory councils and boards be qualified electors (registered voters). Instead, it requires that members be residents of the town and citizens of the United States or lawfully entitled to reside in the United States. The bill applies to citizens' advisory councils in towns in counties with populations under 100,000, as well as town advisory boards in unincorporated towns in any county, if the county commissioners have not designated specific services for the board to manage. The bill also makes a conforming change to the declaration of candidacy form for those town advisory board positions.1
