H.R.5143
District of Columbia Policing Protection Act of 2025
Date of Vote: September 17, 2025
Chamber of Origin: HouseCongress: 119thRoll Call Number: 275 | Session Number: 1
This bill repeals restrictions from D.C.’s 2022 Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act, which limits when D.C. law enforcement can engage in vehicular pursuits of suspects fleeing in motor vehicles. Instead, it mandates pursuits unless deemed futile, excessively risky, or less effective than other apprehension methods. It also requires the Department of Justice to report on the costs and benefits of technology to alert the public about active police pursuits.1
