Chamber of Origin: HouseCongress: 119thRoll Call Number: 103 | Session Number: 1
H.R. 973, the Setting Consumer Standards for Lithium-Ion Batteries Act, directs the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to establish mandatory consumer product safety standards for lithium-ion batteries used in light electric vehicles, eBikes, and personal e-mobility devices. The bill adopts existing ANSI/CAN/UL standards as the initial safety benchmarks. Revisions to these voluntary standards are to be treated as CPSC-issued standards unless the CPSC determines that the revision does not improve safety. The CPSC must also submit a report to Congress within five years, detailing hazards related to lithium-ion batteries in micromobility products, including fires and explosions.1
