Ohio Senate Bill 137 requires hospitals to provide overdose reversal drugs, such as naloxone, to patients who presented to the emergency department for opioid-related adverse events, with some exceptions. While hospitals that purchase their own supply may seek insurance or Medicaid reimbursement, the bill does not guarantee coverage. The state Department of Behavioral Health is directed to supply the drugs to hospitals, but only "if adequate funds are available," with no specified funding source or appropriation. Hospitals must also prepare and submit reports to both the Department of Health and the Department of Behavioral Health.
