Who is eligible to vote in SRP elections?

SRP elections are different — not everyone who lives in the SRP service area is eligible to vote.

To vote in SRP Board and Council elections, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, a registered voter in Arizona, an SRP customer, and a property owner in the SRP voting district (your name must be on the deed or you must be a trustee).

Note: Renters are not eligible to vote.

SRP has two voting districts:

  • SRP Association (water)
  • SRP District (power)
You may be eligible to vote in one or both, depending on where and what kind of property you own.

How the Acreage‑Based Voting System Works

Votes allocated

What is acreage-based voting?

  • All votes are tied to land ownership — the more acres you own, the more votes you have.
  • 1 acre = 1 vote; 0.5 acre = 0.5 vote, etc.
  • SRP’s board seats are mostly elected by acreage-weighted votes — except for at‑large directors, where it’s one landowner = one vote.

Multiple landowners

  • If land is co-owned (e.g., married couples), votes are split proportional to ownership share.
    • E.g., 5 acres in joint tenancy = 2.5 votes each.
    • For trust-held land: trustee or authorized beneficiary can vote, guided by trust appointment paperwork.

Acreage limits

Each landowner’s voting is capped at 1,280 votes per election, regardless of how much land they own.
