SB350
Extended Capital Punishment Act
Date of Vote: April 21, 2025
Chamber of Origin: SenateExtends the timeframes for executing death penalty sentences. Currently, after a death sentence is pronounced, a judge must issue a warrant specifying an execution week between 60 and 90 days from the judgment. If the execution doesn't occur within this period, a new warrant must be issued within 15 to 30 days. This bill tries to amend these provisions by extending both the initial execution window and the timeframe for issuing subsequent warrants to 180–270 days.1
