S723 2026

Tribal Trust Land Homeownership Act of 2025

Date of Vote: March 4, 2026

Chamber of Origin: House

This bill reforms how the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) processes mortgages and land-related documents on tribal trust land. It requires the BIA to acknowledge receipt of mortgage documents, complete a preliminary review within 10 days, and approve or deny applications within 20–30 days depending on the type. The bill also sets deadlines for title status reports, requires notification if processing is delayed, gives tribes and federal agencies read-only access to the BIA’s trust asset system, directs the Government Accountability Office to study digitizing mortgage records, and creates a Realty Ombudsman position within the BIA to help resolve issues with real estate transactions on Indian land.
